Foothills are geographically defined as gradual increases in hilly areas at the base of a mountain range. They are generally larger than hills, but not as tall as nearby mountains. Many neighborhoods and communities found in such a location are termed "the foothills".
Ladd Landing and especially The Highland Reserve are two such locations.  Looking to the east from the ridge tops that run the length of the 430 acres that make up The Highland Reserve, you look upon layer after layer of hilltops leading to the Smoky Mountains.  These foothills change in color with the seasons and add to the overall beauty of the region.
